Thousands of Kenyans planning to travel upcountry will now spend more on transport after Ena Coach announced an immediate fare increase on several major routes across the country.
The popular long-distance bus company said the new prices were introduced following the latest fuel price review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), which pushed diesel and petrol costs to historic highs.
Under the revised charges, passengers travelling from Nairobi to various upcountry destinations through Narok will now pay KSh 1,700, while routes passing through Nakuru will cost KSh 1,800. Travellers heading from Nairobi to Mombasa will part with KSh 2,000.
Ena Coach also confirmed that passengers travelling between Mombasa and different upcountry towns will now pay KSh 3,000. Meanwhile, the Kisii-Kisumu route has been adjusted to KSh 700.
In a public notice, the company explained that the decision followed a careful operational review aimed at maintaining reliable services despite the sharp rise in fuel prices. The firm assured customers that safety and service quality would remain a priority even as operating expenses continue increasing.
The fare changes come at a difficult time for many Kenyans already struggling with the rising cost of living. Recent EPRA fuel prices saw diesel jump significantly, triggering fears of higher transport costs, food prices and commodity expenses nationwide.
Industry experts link the global fuel surge to ongoing tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which have disrupted international oil supply chains and increased pressure on global markets.
Many travellers now fear more transport companies could soon announce similar fare increases across Kenya.
