Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina has revealed that she is currently unwell, disclosing that she is battling a bout of flu that has temporarily affected her public engagements.
The legislator, who is a known ally of President William Ruto within the Mt. Kenya political bloc, shared her health update on Monday, April 27, 2026, through a Facebook post accompanied by recent photos showing her wearing a black face mask over her nose and mouth.
In the post, Maina explained that she had taken precautions by wearing the mask, particularly during a visit by Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho and Mbeere North MP Leo Wamuthende, who had stopped by her residence to check on her wellbeing.
According to her message, the mask was meant to prevent the possible spread of the flu to her visitors as she recovered at home.
“On that season you are down on a bad flu. Thanks Hon. Ali Hassan Joho and Hon Wamuthende for passing by to say hi,” she wrote.
Although she did not disclose how long she had been feeling unwell, her message indicated gratitude for the visit and concern shown by her colleagues during her period of illness.
Her announcement quickly attracted reactions from members of the public on social media, with many Kenyans wishing her a speedy recovery and expressing goodwill messages. Others praised her decision to wear a mask as a responsible step to prevent potential transmission of illness.
The post also sparked wider conversations online about the health of public officials and the importance of transparency when leaders fall ill, especially during active political seasons.
For now, Maina is expected to take time off public duties as she recuperates, with supporters and colleagues continuing to send messages of encouragement and recovery.
