Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga has announced that he received an honorary doctorate degree in Humanity during a ceremony held in Nyahururu town, Laikipia County over the weekend.Taking to social media on Tuesday, April 28, Njenga said the recognition was conferred by international institutions that focus on peace building, social justice, humanitarian service, missionary work, and promotion of global cooperation.
He described the award as a personal milestone, noting that it also represents broader efforts aimed at promoting unity, development, and leadership within Kenya.
Njenga stated that the initiative behind the recognition brings together different stakeholders including national leaders, religious figures, peace advocates, and members of the former Mau Mau movement, which played a key role in Kenya’s struggle for independence.
He further indicated that representatives from the security sector, including officers from the Inspectorate of Police Services, were also part of the engagement, emphasizing the importance of security in sustaining peace efforts.
According to him, collaboration among diverse groups is essential in fostering stability, supporting long-term development goals across the country.During the event, Njenga called on members of the public to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence as key values for national progress.
He emphasized that unity and mutual respect remain central to building a stronger, more inclusive society.
Njenga added that Kenya’s future depends on collective responsibility and the willingness of citizens to work together despite differences.
The former figure has in recent years positioned himself in peace advocacy engagements, often participating in community-based dialogue initiatives aimed at reconciliation and social cohesion.
