A young police officer Samuel Wanyoike recounts his experience after being accused of stealing Ruto’s cash from his helicopter during an event in Garbatulla, Isiolo County.

Wanyoike had just joined the Administrative Police Service in July 2007 and was still getting used to his position in Isiolo.

During that period, the ODM party organized a political rally that drew notable leaders and significant numbers of local citizens.

Among those present was former Eldoret North MP William Ruto, who flew in by helicopter to support Raila Odinga’s campaign.

Reports suggested that the helicopter was transporting significant amounts of cash, although the exact figure was never confirmed.

As the leaders spoke to the crowd, Wanyoike mentions he was assigned small duties close to the helicopter as a member of the security team.

Once the helicopter took off, it quickly became apparent that money was missing and the chopper was directed to go back, and they suspected Wanyoike.

Detectives questioned him, and soon after, he was arrested and brought to the Isiolo Police Station.

He was not formally charged; nonetheless, on September 1, 2007, he got a dismissal letter claiming his involvement in the theft

Despite his relentless efforts, the Police Service upheld the decision bringing an end to his 18 years of service at Kenya Police.
