A section of women in Magadi has threatened to boycott the 2027 general elections, accusing the government of failing to support their league elections, which were scheduled for Monday, March 30.

The elections, intended to be the group’s first in 28 years, were disrupted after no government official showed up to coordinate the process as promised. The women say the delay leaves them without leadership to address grievances.

“No person can stop these elections; the only person who can stop them is a member of the league,” one member said.

“We are not going for elections until the government gives us what we want.” Another added.

The group says strong leadership is critical to fighting rape and mistreatment in the county. A boycott could impact major parties, including ODM and UDA, which have built considerable support among local voters.
