Millicent Mary Atieno was once a respected immigration officer in Nairobi, where she built a stable life.
However, everything changed suddenly, leaving her to spend her nights on the cold streets of the city.
Despite the difficult circumstances she faces, Millicent has not lost her ability to communicate. She speaks fluent English and remembers her past life clearly, including the fact that she is a mother of three.
Originally from a small town in Siaya County, Millicent left her home about 15 years ago to work in Nairobi.
She had a job, a home, and a regular routine, but her life took a drastic turn that she struggles to understand. Now, she spends her nights outside, without a safe place to sleep or any support.
Millicent met Brian Otieno Odhiambo while he was walking in the Lunga Lunga area.
She approached him and began speaking to him in Luo, her native language.
Intrigued by her situation, Brian engaged her in conversation.
During their chat, Millicent shared her story, explaining her previous work at the Immigration Department and how she had once led a stable life.
Yet, she could not recall the specific events that led to her current homelessness.
“I know my home and my family,” she told Brian. She mentioned that her three children and both parents are still alive back in Siaya County.
Despite the memories of her family, the details of what caused her downfall remain unclear, even to her.
