Clara Wamaitha, fondly remembered as Mama Stella from Citizen TV’s Machachari, has faced a difficult journey since the show ended. On screen, she played the role of a stubborn, irresponsible mother whose drinking habits often victimized her daughter Stella. Off screen, however, her life took a painful turn when she was diagnosed with vitiligo, a condition that causes loss of skin pigmentation.

The actress revealed that the condition not only affected her appearance but also her career. Many in the industry discriminated against her, wrongly assuming her illness was contagious. As a result, she has struggled to secure acting roles and has endured isolation, even from some of her former colleagues.

Despite these challenges, Wamaitha has spoken openly about her battles with depression and stigma, courageously insisting that her condition does not define her talent. Her story reflects the harsh realities faced by actors once the spotlight fades, especially when health challenges intersect with public perception.

Her resilience, however, continues to inspire. By sharing her journey, she not only raises awareness about vitiligo but also highlights the need for compassion and inclusivity in Kenya’s entertainment industry.
