The death of former commander, Major General Aboud Abdallah Rafraouf on the 14th of February, 2026, left the country in shock and deep mourning.

Major Gen. Aboud Abdallah was a former commander in the Kenya Navy from 2 May 1998 to 30 November 2001.

Rafraouf initially served as a senior officer in the Kenya Defence Forces and rose through the naval ranks to become Commander of the Kenya Navy in 1998.

He became the 7th head of the naval service, succeeding Major General Joseph Kibwana.

After leaving the post, he retired from active military service in 2002.

He was part of a generation of military leaders credited with: Strengthening Kenya’s naval security capacity, improving operational capability, and enhancing coastal defense systems.

He was described by contemporaries as a disciplined officer who served with commitment and helped shape key defense institutions.

After retiring from the navy, he was reportedly appointed to head the Kenya Ports Authority in 2002.

He sadly passed away on Valentine’s Day, and his death was confirmed by political leaders. As of the reports, the cause of death had not been publicly disclosed.

His leadership followed a decade-long tenure by his predecessor and preceded another major leadership era under Omudho Awitta.
