President William Ruto was seen rolling with laughter after Nandi senatorial aspirant Robinson Chirchir, popularly known as Malaria, reportedly fell while addressing residents in Kaptumo, Nandi County.

The incident happened on Monday, October 12, 2026, as the President continued his tour of the North Rift region ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20.

Chirchir, who is seeking to become Nandi senator on a UDA ticket, was addressing residents when the unexpected moment occurred. The incident quickly drew attention, with Ruto appearing amused by what had happened.

The moment has added an unexpected twist to the President’s visit, which has mainly focused on development projects and political engagement with residents.

Ruto visited Kaptumo in Aldai Constituency as part of his wider programme to inspect and launch projects across the region. His activities included plans linked to affordable housing, electricity connections and the development of modern markets.

During his visit to Nandi, the President also spoke about his administration’s development agenda and the importance of residents participating in the 2027 General Election.

The President has been using the tour to highlight government projects in roads, electricity, healthcare and other areas. His engagements have also included calls for residents to support the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The incident involving Chirchir comes at a time when political leaders and aspirants are increasingly seeking public attention ahead of the 2027 elections. Nandi County is expected to witness political competition as candidates prepare to seek various elective positions.

However, the brief moment of laughter does not change the main purpose of the President’s visit, which has centred on development projects and engagement with local communities.

The incident is likely to attract further attention as video footage and reactions from the event circulate online.
