A family in Nairobi is mourning after a young man named Wesley was beaten to death by a mob in Kawangware under disturbing circumstances.
According to former Kenya Prisons officer and activist Cop Shakur, Wesley was robbed by suspected thieves using a tactic common in the city. Witnesses say the suspects stole from him and fled, prompting Wesley to chase them in an effort to recover his belongings.
As he pursued them, the group turned back, shouted loudly, and falsely accused Wesley of being the thief. Criminals often use this trick in groups, confusing the public and turning the victim into the suspect.
Moments later, a mob descended on Wesley, attacking him with kicks, blows, and crude weapons. The assault lasted minutes as onlookers watched. When the chaos ended, Wesley had sustained fatal injuries and died instantly.
Wesley’s family and friends have called on the government and security agencies to act and ensure justice. They urge authorities to review CCTV footage from nearby shops to identify those responsible for the attack.
This case raises urgent questions about safety and accountability. Mob violence continues to claim lives, and without intervention, more families will suffer.
Authorities must strengthen policing across the country, educate the public against mob justice, and ensure suspects are handled lawfully.
