A family in Budalangi has appealed for help repatriating the body of Oscar Agola, killed in battle in June 2025 while fighting for the Russian Army.
The former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier had gone to Russia seeking employment before his demise.
His family has requested President William Ruto’s administration to help bring his body back for burial.
Speaking in Busia on January 26, 2026, Agola’s mother revealed he was the breadwinner and they’d like to know more about his condition, though they were told he died months ago.
Human Rights activists have called on the government to investigate the incident to prevent more Kenyans being lured into fighting.
Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi said over 200 Kenyans are fighting for Russia in the Russia-Ukraine war, urging Kenyans to be cautious when leaving the country for countries like Russia.
Foreign and Diaspora Affairs PS Korir Singoei said the government has rescued over 50 Kenyans duped by agencies recruiting them to fight for Russia. The work permit is issued in Kenya by local suspects.
