Controversial Kenyan media personality and digital commentator Andrew Kibe has sparked fresh debate after weighing in on the ongoing public discussion surrounding a viral video involving James Opande, a medical doctor based in the United States, and Marion Naipei, the woman seen in the widely circulated footage.
In a post shared on his official Facebook account, Kibe criticised what he termed as unnecessary public interference, singling out Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.
Kibe questioned Mosiria’s involvement, asking who had authorised him to take charge of a matter he described as personal.
Kibe argued that Mosiria was “cloud chasing” by inserting himself into a situation that did not require political or administrative intervention.
He maintained that Opande and Naipei are both adults above the age of 18 and capable of making their own decisions without external pressure or moral policing.
The outspoken commentator further warned against what he described as selective outrage on social media, saying private matters were increasingly being turned into public spectacles for clout and attention.
According to Kibe, public figures should exercise restraint and avoid inflaming situations that could otherwise be resolved privately.
The remarks have added another layer to the heated debate, which has divided public opinion over issues of consent, privacy, and the role of leaders in addressing social controversies.
