A few hours ago, Simon Kibe held an interview with Reverend Patrick Waweru, a man who once served as a Roman Catholic priest but now lives as a married father of five. Waweru narrated how he ended up leaving the priesthood, despite completing his formation successfully at the Society of Mary Seminary in Nairobi. He currently serves under the Charismatic Roman Catholic movement, a group that branched away from the main Roman Catholic Church.

He recounted that he worked as a priest for four years before choosing to make a major change in his life. Waweru explained that although he entered the church fully committed, his experiences at the altar revealed a different reality. He claimed that many priests have secret romantic relationships and drink alcohol privately, something that deeply troubled him. Instead of hiding such behaviours, he felt it was better to step away and live his life openly.

After spending three years in priesthood, he decided he wanted to marry. He later found a girlfriend, and within a year they got married. He is now happily raising five children with his wife. Waweru stressed that his decision to leave the Roman Catholic Church was entirely his own and that he holds no resentment toward the institution.
