In a bold move to safeguard the environment, a group of elders in Igembe South has launched a large-scale tree-planting initiative across forests and local communities, urging residents to take action during the current rainy season.
The elders warned that the continuous destruction of natural resources is putting water sources, climate stability, and future livelihoods at serious risk, and emphasized that protecting the environment is no longer optional but a matter of survival.
They encouraged community members to plant more trees, protect the existing forests, and make full use of the rainy season, describing it as the perfect opportunity to restore the natural balance and ensure the region remains green and productive.
Highlighting the importance of collective effort, the elders said environmental conservation is a shared responsibility, and the prosperity of Igembe South depends on everyone playing their part in safeguarding forests, rivers, and other ecosystems.
The initiative has already seen hundreds of trees planted, with elders calling on youth groups, schools, and local organizations to join the campaign and contribute to securing a sustainable future for generations to come.
