Speaking on Friday, Waiguru refuted his assertion that she is the voice of the region and denied rumors that she intended to join Gachagua’s DCP. “Yeye hajui mahali anaenda” means “He doesn’t know where he is going,” she said, implying that supporting him would be a risk with unclear results. Her comments coincide with Gachagua’s absence from a significant DCP rally in Kakamega, which sparked further rumors and ire among his followers.
Many saw the absence as a reflection of waning momentum, despite the DCP’s attempts to explain it away as logistical and flight-related problems. Given that Waiguru is a prominent governor of Mount Kenya, her intervention is very sharp and indicates a widening divide among the political elite in the area.
Ahead of the crucial 2027 elections, she urged locals to stick with the current administration, cautioning that changing allegiances could politically isolate the area and undermine its interests.
According to political experts, Waiguru’s direct challenge could change the balance of power on Mount Kenya. As 2027 draws near, regional leaders’ affiliations may have a big impact on national results. Waiguru’s message is clear for the time being: embrace stability rather than uncertainty.
