David Ndii has said, “Politics is the means by which a community makes collective decisions. Policy is the collective decision. CBC is the disastrous consequence of leaving education policy to the likes of you.”

The renowned economist and policy analyst delivered a sharp critique of Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), describing it as a failure born from poor policymaking.

Ndii argued that while politics determines how decisions are made, sound policy should emerge from careful planning, expertise, and consideration of long-term societal needs.

In his view, the CBC represents a clear example of what happens when critical national decisions—particularly in education—are left in the hands of individuals he considers ill-equipped or inexperienced.

His remarks sparked debates among educators, parents, and policymakers, many of whom have expressed frustration with CBC’s implementation since its rollout.

Critics argue that the curriculum has created confusion, overburdened teachers, and left students struggling to adapt to its structure.

Supporters, however, contend that the initiative seeks to modernize education and equip students with practical skills. By linking the curriculum’s shortcomings to the quality of leadership and decision-making.

Ndii’s statement underscores the importance of expert-driven policymaking in shaping the future of Kenya’s education system. His critique serves as a warning about the risks of politicizing critical national decisions.
