The African Union (AU) has also expressed doubts about the credibility of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu’s last week reelection.
The union has disclosed that it’s observers noticed a worrying trend at the polling centers, which erodes the credibility of the entire poll.
For instance, they were kicked out of tallying centers in some areas, apparently to give room for rigging and cheating practices.
Some voters were also seen with numerous ballot papers in voting centers, with opposition parties’ agents being blocked from the voting areas.
AU now says that there is need for the Tanzanian government to embrace the electoral reforms proposed by the country’s main opposition party, CHADEMA, for better elections.
It wants the bodies involved in voting matters to be independent from the executive and the opinions and views of citizens and other political players considered and respected.
“Tanzania should prioritize reforms proposed by the opposition to address the challenges that emerged before, during and after last week’s elections,” it said in a statement.
