Nominated MP Sabina Chege has shared positive news for coffee farmers in her constituency following the approval of an Eco-Pulping Machine at the Marumi Coffee Factory.In her statement on Wednesday, November 5, Chege revealed that the approval came after a successful feasibility assessment conducted by officials from the Ministry of Co-operatives, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Directorate of Coffee in Murang’a County.
The evaluation confirmed that the factory met the necessary requirements for installation, with only a few recommendations to be implemented before the rollout within the current financial year.
Chege noted that the installation of the Eco-Pulping Machine will mark a major transformation in coffee processing, promising faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly production.
The new technology is expected to reduce the fermentation process from four days to a single night, minimize power and water consumption, and lower labor costs while improving the overall quality and market value of coffee beans.
“This initiative will greatly enhance the livelihoods of our coffee farmers by increasing the value of their produce and ensuring better prices in the market,” Chege stated.Chege reaffirmed her commitment to championing initiatives that empower local farmers and modernize agricultural practices.
She added that government’s continued investment in coffee reforms would play a vital role in restoring Kenya’s position as a global leader in premium coffee production.
The meeting held at Marumi Coffee Factory brought together key stakeholders, including Mr. Mworia, the Deputy Commissioner of Co-operatives; Eng. Kuria from the Ministry of Agriculture;
Irungu Maina from Directorate of Coffee in Murang’a; and officials from the Marumi Coffee Co-operative.
