A Nairobi woman’s quest for love has turned sour after her marriage to a pastor she met on Facebook collapsed barely a month after their wedding.
Agnes Njiru, a single mother, told TUKO.co.ke that she had always prayed for a kind and honest man who would love and respect her. When she met the pastor online, she believed her prayers had finally been answered.
According to Njiru, the man appeared godly, loving, and full of wisdom during their online conversations.
“I am a mature woman, and all I ever wanted was a truthful and kind husband,” she said. “He was a man of God, and I thought fate had brought us together.”
The two met in person after several weeks of chatting, and within a short time, the pastor proposed.
Convinced that she had found the right partner, Njiru agreed to marry him in a small ceremony attended by close friends and family.
However, her joy was short-lived. Njiru said that soon after moving in together, the pastor’s true colors began to show.
He reportedly became controlling, constantly questioning her movements and accusing her of being unfaithful.
“The same man who used to pray with me started shouting and calling me names,” she recounted. “It was like living with a stranger.”
Attempts to resolve the issues through counseling and prayers proved futile, forcing Njiru to leave the marriage after just one month.
Despite the heartbreak, Njiru said she has learned valuable lessons about rushing relationships and trusting appearances on social media.
She now focuses on rebuilding her life and raising her child, urging other single women to take their time before committing to marriage.
