A South Sudanese woman is grappling with heartbreak and financial ruin after falling victim to a scam by a self-proclaimed witch doctor from Kitui County.
Francy Arunga, a mother of three, believed she had found both love and business success—until it all crumbled.
After meeting her then-partner, a businessman, the two invested in a spare parts venture, with Francy managing operations.
Seeking supernatural help to boost their profits, she contacted a Kitui-based witch doctor named Hassan, encouraged by a friend’s glowing recommendation.
Lured by promises of financial miracles, the couple sent over KSh 580,000 via M-Pesa in hopes of receiving a return worth tens of millions.
The payments, sent gradually via mobile money, were meant to unlock blessings for their business. But when results failed to materialize, Hassan went silent.
“I kept calling and texting, but he disappeared,” Francy recounted. “When things went south, my partner blamed me because I was the one who introduced him.”
As their finances dried up, so did the relationship. Francy was forced out of their home, and the business was shut down.
She lost clients, income, and the little stability she had. Now working as a freelance spare parts distributor in Juba, she struggles to survive while living in fear.
Her ex has threatened legal action, demanding repayment, and Francy says she has no way out.
“I’m scared and alone. I just want justice,” she pleaded.
Francy is now appealing to well-wishers and authorities for help as she battles the consequences of a costly mistake that shattered her life.
