Kalenjin comedian Eliud Lagat, popularly known by his stage name Tapnyolei Rosaline, has once again reached out to the public for financial support as he battles a serious eye condition.
The entertainer, famous for his cross-dressing acts and humorous skits, revealed that his medical struggles have not only drained his finances but also cost him his marriage.
According to Lagat, his wife left him when his health deteriorated, leaving him to take care of their children alone.
Speaking recently, Lagat confirmed that he had initially planned a fundraiser in July but was forced to postpone it. “We had to reschedule because many supporters had not received the information on time.
The new date is Sunday, September 14, and the venue will be Kapkagaon Primary School in Nandi County,” he said.
The aim of the fundraiser is to raise KSh 1.6 million, which will cater for surgery and follow-up treatment. Lagat previously underwent an eye operation at Tenwek Hospital but now requires further procedures and medication.
Despite the heavy burden, Lagat has continued to put on a brave face.
“Some of my friends and fans encouraged me to hold a harambee so that I can get the treatment once and for all. I have tried to manage with painkillers and basic medication, but it is not enough,” he explained.
Close friends of the comedian, including fellow entertainer Arap Uriah, revealed that Lagat’s condition has made it hard for him to work since his eyesight is failing.
“He struggles to see clearly, which affects his performances. Sadly, his wife walked out when things got tough, and now he has to care for the children alone,” Uriah said.
Confirming the claims, Lagat admitted that his wife has not contacted him since leaving. “I’m just doing my best for the kids. She left, and we don’t speak anymore,” he shared.
Lagat is now appealing to his fans, well-wishers, and the wider Kenyan community to support him. Contributions can be sent directly to his phone number.
“Please stand with me in this journey. Any help, no matter how small, will bring me closer to healing,” he urged.
