Fire Nyamira

A family in Kericho County is mourning the tragic death of a 37-year-old salonist Jackline Mbone.

Mbone’s body was discovered burnt beyond recognition in a seemingly suspicious incident that has left relatives demanding answers.

The incident occurred in the Mjini area near Kericho town.

According to the family, Mbone’s body was found inside her boyfriend’s iron-sheet house after being doused with petrol and set on fire.

Her sister, Caroline Mbobe, described the heart-wrenching discovery, saying she found Mbone’s charred remains propped against the wall, suggesting that she may have been killed before the fire was set.

Caroline raised critical questions about the nature of the fire, noting that although her sister’s body was badly burnt, the house itself remained largely undamaged. Only a motorcycle parked inside suffered minor burns but was recovered intact, adding to the family’s suspicion that the fire was deliberately set to conceal a murder rather than being accidental.

The family also highlighted strained relations between Mbone and her boyfriend’s family. Reports suggest that the deceased had not been fully accepted in her boyfriend’s home, and she had a difficult relationship with the boyfriend’s father.

On the day of the incident, the boyfriend and his father were reportedly the only individuals present in the compound when the fire occurred.

The police, led by Kericho East OCPD Tom Makori, have confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations handling the case. However, no arrests have been made, and the circumstances surrounding Mbone’s death remain unclear.

Her family continues to seek justice, urging authorities to thoroughly investigate and bring those responsible to account for this tragic loss.
