ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga has acknowledged President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta as key founding members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking during the first joint Kenya Kwanza–ODM Parliamentary Group meeting at the KCB Leadership Centre in Karen on Monday, August 18, 2025, Raila reflected on the party’s origins and its ongoing influence in national politics.

“One of the founding members of ODM is sitting here with you,” Raila said, referring to Ruto, while also recognising Uhuru Kenyatta’s role. He announced that ODM will mark its 20th anniversary in October, inviting all founding members to the milestone event.

Raila also highlighted the importance of clearly defined governance roles. “The legislature makes laws, the executive runs the country, and the judiciary ensures the executive does not overreach,” he said, stressing that parliament’s work is representation.

Founded during Kenya’s constitutional reforms, ODM has grown into a major political force, with its founding members continuing to shape alliances and national policy.
