Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda has firmly denied claims that she received money to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Monday, August 18, 2025, the senator dismissed the allegations as unfounded and politically driven.
The claims emerged during a heated exchange with Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, who directly asked her to clarify whether she was paid to back the controversial motion.
“Did you receive Ksh10 million to impeach former DP Gachagua?” Nyutu pressed during a live interview with a local media outlet.
In response, Senator Tabitha categorically rejected the accusation, stressing she never accepted money in exchange for her vote.
“I, Senator Tabitha, did not receive any money to vote for the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” she said.
She further criticised Nyutu, suggesting his attacks were misplaced frustrations that added no value to the political discourse.
“Just manage your frustrations and move forward. Kenyans have already moved on,” she remarked firmly.
Her defence comes months after Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo revealed he had been offered Ksh4 million by unnamed state agents to vote for Gachagua’s ouster. At the time, Maanzo warned that threats and bribery attempts had become routine in Parliament, alleging that state operatives pushed for unanimous support against Gachagua.
The bribery claims have kept Gachagua’s impeachment in the spotlight, with ongoing debates about integrity in Parliament and the influence of political deals on major decisions.
