Fresh details have emerged about the troubled past of the man accused of killing two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Although widely known as Kennedy Kalombotole, his lawyer has now revealed that is not his real name.According to the lawyer, the suspect’s name is Peter. The lawyer explained that Peter was raised on the streets after losing his biological mother several years ago.

With no permanent home or known family, he said Peter has endured a life of hardship. He further clarified that Peter is Kenyan and dismissed claims that he might be a foreigner.

The lawyer stated that it is wrong for the government to prosecute someone whose identity has not been confirmed, adding that even the court has acknowledged this issue.

He also revealed that Kenyatta National Hospital holds two social files containing Peter’s background but said access to the documents has been denied. He claimed that a staff member who tried to help was warned not to speak about the case or risk losing their job.

Peter was first admitted to the hospital in November 2022 under the name Kalombotole. He was treated as a regular patient, though no identification documents were ever provided.

Last week, Kibera Magistrate Daisy Mutai told the court that the suspect could not be granted bail because his true identity remained unknown.

She also pointed out that he has no fixed residence.

Medical reports presented to the court indicated he suffers from diabetes and epilepsy, prompting his transfer from Kilimani Police Station to Mbagathi Hospital for proper treatment.

After another patient died in the same ward in July 2025, the case became more serious.

The suspect has since been moved to Industrial Area Prison, where he is waiting for a mental health evaluation.
