A Githui Mwangi

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Garissa have arrested Antony Githua Mwangi, a public officer working with the Ministry of Lands in Garissa, after receiving a tip-off from a concerned citizen.

Mwangi was intercepted by detectives while driving along the Garissa-Lamu road in a black Toyota Prado, registration number KDQ 876Y.

When the officers stopped him and searched the vehicle, they found three rounds of 9mm Colt ammunition, six personal cheques each valued at Sh500,000, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) badges showing the rank of Captain, and four mobile phones of different types.

The findings immediately raised concerns over possible illegal activities.

Following the discovery, detectives accompanied Mwangi to his home in Madogo. His brother was present during the search, which revealed more serious items.

The officers found five live bullets of 7.62 x 51 ammunition, thirty blank title deed forms, one lease certificate, and several other documents related to land matters.

These documents are believed to be used in fraudulent land dealings.

The investigation then extended to Mwangi’s other residences in Thika and Ruiru.

In these locations, detectives uncovered more evidence, including an original title deed for a piece of land in Kajiado County and an application form for consent from the Lands Control Board in the same area.

A collection of other land-related documents was also found, pointing to a wider scheme involving illegal land transfers.

The police believe the suspect used his position at the Ministry of Lands to create and process fake documents for personal gain.

The ammunition, KDF badges, and high-value cheques further deepened suspicions of a possible larger network of criminal activitie
