DIG Eliud

The plan to stop Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Lagat from working has failed again. This is the second time the case has fallen apart in court.

On Wednesday, the case was taken before Justice Chacha Mwita at the Constitutional and Human Rights Division of the High Court. But before the judge could even start listening to the case, a lawyer from the government stood up and stopped everything.

State Counsel Christopher Marwa, who was speaking for Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, told the court that they had already filed a legal objection. He said the High Court has no power to hear or decide anything in this case. The government believes that this court is not the right one to handle the matter.

Because of this objection, the case could not continue. The judge must now decide if the court has the right to hear the case before anything else can happen. So for now, everything has stopped.

The people who took the matter to court want DIG Lagat to be suspended so that he does not interfere with investigations. But the case is now stuck because of legal arguments.

This means DIG Lagat will continue working in his position as the Deputy Inspector General until the court makes a new decision. The whole process is now moving slowly, and many people are not happy with the delay.

It is not clear when the court will give the next ruling, but for now, nothing is changing. The case has now become more about legal procedures than about the real problem.

Kenyans will have to wait longer to know if DIG Lagat will be removed or allowed to continue. The judge is expected to give a new date soon to deal with the objection first. Only after that can the real case begin again.
