According to information from a trustworthy source, certain police officers are secretly undermining Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome Kanja as his term comes to an end.
The covert plan aims to remove him and replace him with Eliud Lagat, his second-in-command.
The dispute arose after the death of Albert Omondi, popularly known as Ojwang, according to a People Daily report published on Saturday.
Omondi’s head injury at the Central Police Station was first reported to the public by IG Kanja.
Later investigations, however, have shown that this is not true; rather, it was a purposeful cover-up carried out by a group of policemen led by Lagat.
Kanja was forced to apologise to the nation as the truth came to light. He admitted to being duped and giving false information about Omondi’s death.
The policemen who engaged in the deceit aimed to make him appear weak and inappropriate for his role.
In order to make Lagat the most suitable successor to Kanja when he leaves in 2027, the informant asserts that these officers are creating chaos inside the police force.
Significant questions about faithfulness and governance inside the police organisation are being raised by this internal conflict.
