Medical equipment, including IV lines, can be seen attached to him, as authorities maintain a guard at his bedside.
According to police sources, the man was part of a group that turned a peaceful demonstration into a violent standoff with law enforcement.
He was captured on video dragging a panga along the ground and rallying fellow protesters to resist advancing officers.
At one point, a police officer was seen firing a teargas canister toward him as he shouted, “Endeni huko!” while refusing to back down. The protests erupted after the fatal shooting of Duncan Nderitu, 35, who died after being shot during a police operation targeting suspected drug dealers.
Tensions escalated when community members confronted the officers, resulting in further unrest. Reports indicate Nderitu was shot in the head amid the confusion, allegedly by a stray bullet.
In the aftermath, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that ten junior officers have been arrested for questioning as part of an internal probe.
The incident adds to growing concerns about police conduct, especially following the recent controversial death of blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody.
Investigations continue as calls mount for accountability and reform within the police service.
