After spending five years behind bars, Waithera Njuguna, popularly known as Liz Njuguna, has finally regained her freedom. Liz, hailing from Subukia, Nakuru County, first gained notoriety in April 2018 when a compromising video of her and former Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri was leaked to the public.
The scandalous video appeared to show Ndambiri in a compromising situation with Liz, while her alleged husband confronted the politician, half-naked. Ndambiri claimed that criminals had set him up and demanded a hefty sum of Sh5 million to keep quiet, which he refused. Recently released from prison, Liz has opened up about her tumultuous life, shattered relationships, and her involvement in criminal activities that led to her incarceration. In an interview with a local YouTuber, she shared her story of hardship and choices that ultimately led her down a troubled path.
Liz revealed that she had married shortly after high school and had a son. Her family supported her pursuit of higher education, but her marriage eventually turned toxic, leading to her decision to end it. While attending college, Liz found employment at a Nairobi financial institution and became involved with a prominent married businessman. Despite the love he showered upon her, the businessman’s infidelity and violent tendencies forced Liz to reevaluate their relationship. She eventually ended the relationship but continued to socialize with the same circle of friends, often partying around the city.
During this time, Liz befriended a male politician who trusted her. However, her friends saw an opportunity to exploit this friendship. They coerced Liz into luring Ndambiri into a trap, aiming to tarnish his political career. Under duress, Liz agreed to their plan. They arranged for Ndambiri to be caught in a compromising situation, with one of her male friends posing as her husband. The plan unfolded in a private residence, where they were found naked in bed. The encounter was filmed, with Liz herself being physically assaulted to make it appear authentic.
Following the incident, they demanded a refund of her dowry from Ndambiri and threatened to release the video unless he complied with their demands. A month later, the video went public, causing immense shame and humiliation. Liz’s life took a darker turn as she became a target for police raids. Fearing for her safety, she moved to a different location and was introduced to a criminal gang involved in robberies. However, their criminal spree was short-lived, and the law caught up with them.
Remarkably, two of Liz’s accusers eventually forgave her, leading to her release from prison. Her journey, from scandal to redemption, serves as a cautionary tale of the consequences of one’s choices and the power of forgiveness and second chances.
