For one Kenyan woman, however, that long-awaited homecoming ended in heartbreaking sorrow after she discovered that the mother she had left alive had passed away during her time away.
The emotional story has touched thousands of social media users after the woman, identified as Pendo, shared a video documenting her painful return from the Gulf. Instead of embracing her mother after years apart, she found herself standing beside her mother’s grave in the family compound.
In the video posted on TikTok, Pendo slowly walks toward the grave while dressed in a purple tracksuit. As she reaches the burial site, she gently places her hand on the mound of soil before walking around it in visible disbelief. Overwhelmed by emotion, she later stands with both hands on her head, seemingly struggling to accept the painful reality before her.
The touching clip was accompanied by the gospel song “Malengo Ya Mungu” by Israel Mbonyi, whose emotional lyrics added to the sorrowful atmosphere of the moment.
