Winnie Odinga left Kenyans amused after joking about her late father, Raila Odinga, and her playful search for a husband following Charlene Ruto’s traditional wedding ceremony.
Winnie was among the guests who attended Charlene Ruto and Tanzanian entrepreneur Isayah Yunge’s Koito ceremony in Kilgoris, Narok County, on Saturday, August 8.
Following the colourful celebrations, Raila’s youngest daughter shared several photos from the event on Instagram, including pictures of Charlene, as she congratulated the newly engaged couple.
However, it was her humorous caption that quickly caught the attention of her followers. Winnie joked that her father had sent her to Tanzania in search of a husband, only for Charlene to follow her and apparently take the man she had hoped to find.
She wrote: “I told him that ‘Baba yangu alinituma Tanzania, siku jua Charlene ananifuata nyuma kuninyima bwana!’”
The lighthearted remark sparked amusement among her followers, with many appreciating her playful take on the wedding celebrations.
Winnie also congratulated Charlene, referring to her as her sister and a “blushing bride”. She wished Charlene and Isayah happiness as they begin their new chapter together.
She added another humorous comment after an interaction with President William Ruto, joking about the firm handshake they shared.
“I didn’t know there was a hand squeezing competition ahead!” she wrote.
Charlene and Isayah’s Koito brought together members of their families, friends and several prominent guests for the traditional celebration.
