EALA legislator Winnie Odinga injected humor into her mother Ida Odinga’s 76th birthday party when she playfully presented her “partner” to the crowd.

The family event was hosted at the Odingas’ home in Karen, where family members, friends and close allies gathered to honor Ida on her special day.

The birthday was particularly poignant for the family, as it marked Ida’s first celebration since losing her husband, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who died in October last year.

During the ceremony, Winnie took to the podium to pay tribute to her mother, commending her for being the family’s rock and holding them together through a challenging time.

The touching atmosphere took a funny turn when her small white Chihuahua walked up to the stage and stood right next to her.

Rather than chase the dog away, Winnie used the moment to lighten the mood.

She jokingly introduced the pet as her partner, a remark that caught guests off guard and had the entire venue bursting into laughter.

The witty statement seemed to be a nod to Winnie’s candid views on her love life, which she has never shied away from discussing publicly.

The EALA MP has in the past talked openly about being single, noting that she will not be pressured by societal expectations to hurry into marriage.

She has also shared that she was in a long-term relationship for several years before it ended.

According to Winnie, choosing a life partner should be driven by real love and genuine commitment, not by the need to fulfill society’s timelines for marriage and starting a family.

Because of her public profile, Winnie’s love life has often been under scrutiny, with interviewers and the public frequently asking about her plans to settle down.

She has previously admitted to feeling pressure from both family and the public when it comes to getting married and having children.

However, at her mother’s birthday, she showed she could handle the topic with lightheartedness.

Her humorous introduction of her Chihuahua became one of the standout moments of what was otherwise a deeply emotional family celebration.

For now, it seems her four-legged friend has temporarily taken the role of her “better half,” giving everyone a reason to laugh as they marked Ida’s 76th birthday.
