A trip to the market for diapers and vegetables became the last journey of a Nandi County teacher’s life, leaving behind a fiancée, a young child and wedding plans that will never be fulfilled.
Abraham Kibet taught at Kaputi Junior Secondary School in Chepkunyuk before he was killed in a road accident at Free Town, Himaki, while running the household errand.
The couple had been counting down to a January wedding, a day Kibet’s fiancée, Joyce Chepkorir, says they had looked forward to as the next chapter of their life together.
Joyce now faces raising their child alone, her grief compounded by memories of the future the pair had mapped out just weeks before his death.
In a tribute posted online, she asked why the tragedy had struck when it did, reflecting on how quickly their shared plans had come undone.
News of Kibet’s death has also reached Kaputi JSS, where students and staff are mourning a teacher remembered for his dedication to the classroom.
Colleagues say his impact on the school community in Chepkunyuk will endure well beyond his passing.
