Late Kenyan billionaire Chris Kirubi lived a life many admired for its success, luxury, and freedom. Known for his sharp business mind and flamboyant lifestyle, Kirubi built one of Kenya’s most respected business empires while inspiring many young entrepreneurs. However, behind the wealth and fame was a man who openly admitted that marriage was not easy for him.

Kirubi was once married to the mother of his two children, Mary-Anne Musangi and Robert Kirubi. The marriage later ended in divorce in 1991, and he never remarried again. According to Kirubi, constant disagreements and differences in personality made the relationship difficult to sustain.

In several interviews, the billionaire explained that he valued personal freedom and preferred a lifestyle that allowed him to focus fully on business and personal happiness. He described his former wife as conservative, while he considered himself outgoing and adventurous. Kirubi believed the two had different personalities that could not easily blend together.

The businessman once stated that going home to frequent quarrels drained his peace of mind. He argued that people should not remain in unhappy marriages simply to maintain appearances. In his view, divorce was painful but sometimes necessary if a relationship no longer brought joy or comfort.

After the separation, Kirubi chose to remain single and instead concentrated on expanding his investments and mentoring upcoming entrepreneurs. He often joked that his pet dogs gave him more peace because they never argued with him. Even in old age and during illness, he reportedly remained deeply involved in his businesses and regularly monitored operations from abroad.

Despite his controversial remarks about marriage, Kirubi remained one of Kenya’s most influential businessmen until his death at the age of 80.
