Didmus Barasa, the Kimilili Member of Parliament, has clarified why the ODM Secretary General, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, was not included in the list of Cabinet Secretaries in the broad-based government established by President William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Barasa claims that Sifuna was first considered for the position because of his powerful position in the ODM, but that name was later rejected in favor of former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.

The reason for the choice, according to Barasa, was the need to strike a balance between regional representation inside the Mulembe nation.

“They thought that there shouldn’t be two names from the same community. So Sifuna’s name was dropped, and Oparanya was retained,” he said.

This action demonstrates the complicated political talks aimed at achieving a fair distribution of jobs across Kenya’s various areas.

Notably, Barasa revealed that Sifuna had personally approached him to advocate for the Cabinet position, demonstrating the senator’s strong desire to hold a high position in the government.

The party leadership, nevertheless, gave priority to regional inclusivity over individual goals.

The complicated dynamics of coalition politics, where appointments are frequently determined by loyalty, regional balance, and strategic interests, are highlighted by the exclusion of Sifuna.

The fact that Sifuna was left out of the Cabinet list indicates that the party is more concerned with overall political harmony than with individual importance, even if he is still a significant player in the ODM.

Such choices will continue to influence the changing scenery of Kenya’s power-sharing agreements as the RutoRaila administration forms.
