Emmanuel Khaingah, the 28-year-old Gen Z, has shared why he rescued Police Constable Emily Kanyi during a violent protest. He said he was at the scene to lay flowers for victims of police brutality, not to cause trouble.

When chaos broke out, he noticed the officer trapped and under attack from the crowd. One protester grabbed her headgear, and others started throwing stones at her.

Khaingah stepped in and shielded her as things got worse. He stood his ground and tried to keep the crowd away until help came.

A boda boda rider also tried to evacuate the injured officer, but the bike was hit and flipped over. Moments later, an ambulance arrived and took the officer to safety.

Khaingah kept quiet after the incident because of fears about the country’s political tension. His friends and family also advised him to remain silent for safety reasons.

Police officer Sammy Ondimu later started a public search to identify and thank the mystery rescuer. Khaingah finally came forward after being assured of safety.

He explained that he acted out of concern for human life, not for attention. His story later went viral as many praised him for his rare act of bravery.

He and the officer later met in person after a virtual call arranged by Ondimu. The meeting was a quiet moment of respect between two people from different sides of the protest.

Khaingah’s message was clear that even in conflict, protecting life comes first. His actions gave a powerful example of calm choices in tense situations.
