Kenyan gospel artiste Ben Cyco and his wife Wanjiru have opened up about why they recited different vows on their wedding day.
On their podcast Joy Ride Wanjiru says she opted not to say ‘For richer for poorer’ as she did not want to manifest poverty in her marriage.
“On my part I said for richer or richer instead of for richer or poorer. You can’t go claiming poverty.” Says Wanjiru
Ben says for him ‘poverty’ means a lack of love and kindness.
” I see money as something temporary. When it is in plenty you have to plan for the dry times in case they hit, when it’s less you have to work with what we have.”

Award-winning gospel star Ben Cyco a.k.a Ben Kariuki exchanged vows with his long-time girlfriend and fellow content creator Wanjiru Njiru.

Ben and Wanjiru tied the knot in late 2021.
In a previous podcast, Ben had revealed his friends were against him dating Wanjiru.
This was because of how she used to dress yet Ben is a gospel artiste.
The couple decided to stick by what they felt for each other given they had dated for years and knew each other better.
“When I started hitting on Wanjiru I mentioned it to my friends and most of them were from church. They were against me marrying her.
They were like, ‘Is she saved? Are you sure?’ I decided to give this ‘Jezebel’ a chance but she would sometimes choma picha by showing up wearing a mini skirt when meeting my friends.”
Cyco says he hasn’t lost friends because of his relationship with Wanjiru.
“The friendships I have lost is because of life. But my ex had warned me against talking to you.”
