Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro held a morning meeting with newly appointed Jubilee Party Leader Dr Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday, extending congratulations on behalf of the People’s Party following his elevation to the top job.
In a statement shared after the meeting, Nyoro said they met with Matiang’i in the morning and congratulated him on behalf of the People’s Party.
The meeting comes just a day after Matiang’i was formally confirmed as Jubilee Party Leader, a move that has drawn reactions from various political figures across the opposition divide as coalition talks continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Nyoro also used the opportunity to raise a separate policy matter, stating that free basic education must begin in January 2028.
He did not elaborate on the specifics behind the proposed timeline or whether it was discussed during his meeting with Matiang’i, leaving it unclear whether the education remarks were tied to the courtesy visit or issued as a standalone policy position.
The meeting adds to a series of engagements Matiang’i has held since taking over Jubilee’s leadership, as he works to consolidate support and build alliances within the broader opposition landscape.
His appointment followed former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s earlier announcement that he would step back into an advisory role at the party while a younger leader took charge of day-to-day operations.
The visit signals continued political networking around Matiang’i’s new position, as various leaders and parties move to formally acknowledge his appointment amid the wider realignment taking place within Kenya’s opposition ahead of 2027.
