National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula emphasized the need for support to address the challenges faced by the Kenyan government.

He cautioned leaders against engaging in a blame game, as it would not provide solutions to the country’s problems.

While speaking in Kisii, Wetang’ula called for unified efforts to foster progress and development at both the national and county levels.

“Leaders could be fighting, but we must all remember that it is the citizens who could be suffering. The story about future politics will be discussed at a later stage,” he said.

“We must support the Government in making the right decisions and policies,” he added.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula urged leaders to avoid political chest-thumping and focus on finding ways to ensure that resources are effectively distributed to the counties.

He pointed out that currently, counties receive only 20% of the resources, with the majority remaining at the national government level. Wetang’ula stressed the importance of reducing political grandstanding to facilitate the flow of resources to the counties.

Wetang’ula also noted that President William Ruto has been endorsing government policies aimed at reforming various sectors of the economy. He emphasized the need for unity among leaders and collaboration with the county governments to achieve common goals.

The Speaker called on Gusii leaders to unite and steer clear of political conflicts that could disrupt development projects in the region.

“We only have one president and 47 governors, there is no need to be quarreling all the time. Leaders are supposed to give solutions and not fight. We must find a way to work as a team,” he said.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula encouraged Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Senator Richard Onyonka to collaborate and find common ground to provide solutions that can foster unity within the community.

Wetang’ula highlighted that Nyamira, Kisii, Migori, and Homabay counties possess valuable resources, and it’s essential for their leadership to come together and create strategies for harnessing these resources to drive the development of the region.
