On Friday night Kenyans received some shocking news about the arrest of four filmmakers that had taken part in the production of BBC’s film on the anti-government protests in 2024.
The video went viral and elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans.
A section of Kenyans praised BBC for the expose while others condemned them for making the video as they said it was intentionally released to cause chaos in the country.
Hours after the arrest of the four journalists from their studio in Kilimani, Russia through its embassy to Kenya has come out to make a statement about the freedom of journalists.
They said that journalists make films about life and it is based on their views about what is happening in the world.
They said journalists take life risks to defend the truth and are never appreciated.
“Journalists write and film about life, they are living people with their angels and demons, their joys and worries, their views on the world. Taking daily risks to defend the truth they did not retreat, they remained humans.”
The embassy then shared some photos of Russian journalists who have been killed in the past for standing for the truth.
The post has been seen as an indirect message to the Kenyan government because of their bad treatment of journalists.
