The brutal murder of Sergeant Gladys Kirika Nyaguthe came to light not through a missing person report, but through a confession made by her own husband at Kinoo police station in Kiambu County.
According to a publication on the Citizen digital media platform, on Thursday September 3, 2026, Patrick Chege the husband of the late Sergeant Kirika walked himself into Kinoo Police Station and went straight to the Deputy Officer Commanding Station (OCS).
In a bold fashion, Patrick Chege opened up and confessed to the Deputy OCS that he had killed his wife following a heated domestic dispute and that he had dumped her body in bushes in Kagira, Kabete.
The confession shocked the Deputy OCS who immediately called and informed officers at the Kabete Police Station, whose jurisdiction covers Kagira village where Chege had disposed Kirika’s lifeless body in a gunny bag.
As a result, a team of officers from Kabete Police Station was dispatched to the location Chege had mentioned and after combing through dense undergrowth, they found Kirika’s body concealed in a thicket.
Upon searching her pockets, the officers recoverd Gladys Kirika’s Certificate of Appointment and it is how they were able to identify her identify as a Sergeant who was working at Subuiga Police Station based in Meru County.
According to the officers, Kirika’s mutilated body had serious head injuries as well as her left hand. Her legs also showed deep marks of a rope suggesting she was tightly restrained before the suspect attacked and killed her.
The officers also collected a sharp Maasai sword and a claw hammer at the scene as exhibits which was probably used to execute the ill mission.
Gladys Kirika’s body was taken to the mortuary awaiting for a post-mortem analysis to establish the exact cause of death.
On the other hand, Patrick Chege was admitted at St. Luke’s Hospital awaiting for a mental test and he is set to be charged with murder once medically cleared to appear in court.
