Big Man

The nation is in mourning following the tragic assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Were, who was gunned down earlier today by unidentified assailants in a brazen attack that has left many stunned.

Just hours before his death, Were delivered what has now become his final public address at a charged political rally. A video, which has since gone viral, captures the late MP passionately defending ODM Party leader Raila Odinga. The Facebook Live post, uploaded shortly before the attack, shows Were urging his constituents to remain steadfast in their support for the party’s ideals.

“Raila Odinga is not just a name – he represents the hopes of millions. He is a movement, a force for change. We must not waver,” Were declared to resounding applause.

The outspoken lawmaker was shot dead on Tuesday morning by gunmen on a motorcycle. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers fled the scene immediately after opening fire. Police have launched a full-scale investigation, though no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. The motive for the killing remains unclear.

His body is currently at Nairobi Hospital’s morgue, where a wave of leaders and dignitaries have gathered to pay their respects. Among them is Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, accompanied by lawmakers from across the political divide. The hospital’s premises have been placed under tight security as the nation reels from the loss.

Social media has been flooded with messages of condolence, shock, and calls for justice. Supporters described Were as a dedicated servant of the people and a fearless defender of his political beliefs.

“This is not just a loss to Kasipul constituency. Kenya has lost a bold voice in the national discourse,” said one mourner outside the hospital gates.

Were, who had served in Parliament since the 2022 general election, was known for his unwavering loyalty to ODM and for championing youth empowerment and devolution.

As investigators comb through evidence and security agencies piece together the puzzle, Kenyans wait anxiously for answers – and justice.
