The Ugandan police officer who was knocked down by a boda boda rider while clearing the road for President Yoweri Museveni’s motorcade has finally received a promotion.
The officer, identified as SP Kennedy Ocaya, was previously serving as the Officer in Charge of Mbarara City South Division. He was involved in the incident on December 1, 2025, along the Mbarara–Kabale Road while on duty managing traffic ahead of President Museveni’s convoy.
According to Ugandan media reports, the boda boda rider allegedly ignored police instructions to stop and continued at high speed before crashing into the officer. The impact threw SP Ocaya into the air, with photos and videos of the incident widely shared on social media, including by Crooze FM.
The officer sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment. Fortunately, he survived the accident and later recovered. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident as investigations commenced.
Months after the dramatic crash, SP Ocaya has been rewarded for his service. He has been promoted and transferred to Mbale Central Police Station, where he will now serve as the Divisional Police Commander (DPC).
His promotion has been viewed by many as recognition of his commitment and dedication while carrying out his duties despite the life-threatening incident.
