Family of Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has shared how her children reacted after hearing about her recent attack. Rebecca’s father revealed that her kids are currently living with their grandmother and were very upset when they learned about their mother’s condition.
The children, aged nine and eleven, were at church when the attack happened. When they were told what occurred, they cried bitterly. Their grandfather noted how difficult this news was for them, saying, “Her children are crying in the house after hearing about the attack.” He mentioned that he had asked his wife to take care of the kids during this tough time.
Rebecca was attacked because of a land dispute involving her partner, Dickson Ndiema. The details of the attack are very disturbing. She suffered severe injuries, including serious burns and damage to her skin. Reports say she also had inhalation burns that affected her throat and breathing.
Tragically, Rebecca passed away just two days after the attack. Despite the family’s efforts to get her medical help, doctors were worried about her condition due to the extent of her injuries. They had planned to airlift her to Nairobi for specialized treatment when she sadly lost her life.
The loss of their mother has left Rebecca’s children and the entire family in shock and grief. The family is trying to support the children, but the emotional pain they are feeling is immense. The community has also come together to mourn Rebecca’s loss, showing sympathy for her children and the family.
