Wesley Ruto

Detectives in Bomet Central have apprehended Wesley Cheruiyot Koech, the key suspect in the shocking murder of 45-year-old Rachealine Rutto.

The suspect, aged 28, is believed to have committed the heinous act out of bitterness after their past romantic relationship ended several years ago.

The tragic incident came to light on March 25, 2025, when Rutto’s daughter, worried after her mother failed to respond to repeated calls, visited her home.

What she found was harrowing—her mother lying motionless in bed, soaked in blood. The body showed deep neck wounds and multiple stab injuries on the chest, back, and arms, indicating a violent struggle.

Following the gruesome discovery, detectives launched a detailed investigation. Forensic evidence and intelligence gathering led them to Sailo village in Kipkelion East Sub-County, where they found the suspect in hiding. Koech was arrested and taken into custody without incident.

Upon interrogation, Koech reportedly led the authorities to his residence. There, detectives uncovered critical evidence, including a bloodstained knife believed to be the murder weapon.

They also recovered Rutto’s personal belongings such as a ring and a mobile phone, which reportedly contained disturbing images of the victim taken after her death.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Koech had held onto resentment since their breakup in 2016. He allegedly felt betrayed and bitter over financial investments he claimed to have made during their relationship.

Koech remains in police custody as he undergoes processing. Authorities have confirmed that he will be arraigned in court soon to face murder charges. The case has sparked public outrage, with many calling for swift justice for Rutto and her grieving family.
