Following accusations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi planned his own kidnapping, three people—including the chairperson of the Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF)—were taken into custody.

DCI Director Amin Mohammed and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja spoke to the media, explaining how Koimburi reportedly orchestrated his kidnapping on Wednesday ,May 28, outside a church in Mugutha, Kiambu County.

Kanja claims that the MP worked with close associates to carry out the complex plan, which resulted in his being loaded without his will into a Subaru Forester and then discovered hurt in a coffee plantation in Kibichoi, Kiambu, on Monday morning.

An honourable member of parliament going to such lengths to fake his own kidnapping is completely unthinkable and would incite anxiety and stress throughout the nation, DCI Director Amin Mohammed stated. “Thankfully, our enquiries have revealed the truth, demonstrating that the MP was not kidnapped.”Three suspects have been taken into custody by the DCI, including the Juja CDF chairperson, whose identity has not been made public, and Cyrus Kieru Muhia, who was identified as the owner of the Subaru Forester used in the suspected kidnapping.

Muchiri Nyaga, a police spokesperson, said that Muhia is being detained at DCI Headquarters in order to be questioned about his involvement in the incident.

Additionally, authorities are looking for a boda boda rider who may have been involved in getting Koimburi to Jimmy Wanjigi’s coffee estate. According to Kanja, there were concerns raised by the forensic examination of the location where Koimburi was discovered. Juja officers went to the suspected spot and took pictures.

He questioned the veracity of the extensively shared video depicting Koimburi writhing in agony, saying, “It was determined that the dimensions of the road and vegetation did not match with those in the viral video.” Suspicions of a staged event were further heightened when Moses Kariuki, the coffee farm’s caretaker, claimed he did not observe any such thing.

Koimburi had been avoiding arrest since Friday, May 23, when police tried to arrest him on charges of land fraud and CDF fund misuse, the police added. Koimburi allegedly fled on a motorbike that time, a strategy he had employed in February when he was accused of falsifying academic credentials.
