On Tuesday, an ODM politician caused a heated debate online after making serious claims against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Taking to his Facebook account, the politician hinted at Gachagua, accusing him of allegedly plotting to kill former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in 2023.

The post quickly attracted attention and was widely shared, with many Kenyans expressing shock over the claims.

In his statement, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma made strong remarks, claiming that Rigathi Gachagua deeply hated Raila Odinga.

According to Kaluma, the alleged hatred was so extreme that when Raila passed away, Gachagua did not attend his funeral. Kaluma said this showed the level of bitterness that existed between the two leaders.

“This hatred went beyond politics. It was personal, and that is why even in death, respect was denied,” Kaluma stated in his post.

Kaluma further said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party would not forget what he described as unfair treatment toward Raila Odinga.

He noted that the party would seek political revenge in the 2027 elections by voting out leaders associated with Gachagua. Kaluma emphasized that the “revenge” would be done peacefully through the ballot, insisting that ODM believes in democratic processes and not violence.

However, the remarks sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans on social media. Some supported Kaluma’s statements, saying leaders should be held accountable for their actions.

Others criticized him for using strong language and making claims they felt could fuel political tension. A section of Kenyans called for restraint, urging leaders to promote unity and peace instead of reopening old political wounds.
