Content creator Kafengo, a close friend of the late comedian Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known as KK Mwenyewe, has finally opened up about how the funds raised for the funeral were spent.

Speaking days after the emotional burial, Kafengo addressed growing public demand for accountability after Kenyans contributed generously towards the comedian’s send-off. According to the funeral committee’s treasurer, a total of KSh 766,000 was raised from TikTok Live sessions and a memorial event held at Blue Springs Hotel.

“We hosted three TikTok sessions which brought in over KSh 230,000, and the rest came from the memorial and till number donations,” the treasurer revealed.

Out of the total funds, KSh 563,000 was used for burial expenses, while the remaining KSh 203,000 will be handed over to KK’s mother, who was visibly heartbroken at her son’s burial in Lari, Kiambu County.

The funeral committee also announced plans to give KK’s personal content creation equipment including an iPhone and lighting gear to his family. However, they called on Kenyans to support KK’s crew, including Kafengo, who are now left with no tools to continue their creative journey.

“They had a dream of owning a studio. Let’s not wait to support them posthumously. Support their hustle while they’re still alive,” the committee chairman urged, sharing till number 9661153 under the name Andrew Nyaga for contributions.

President William Ruto was among the leaders who supported the family financially, donating KSh 1 million, while other politicians, including Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Kiambu MCAs, Kimani Ichung’wah and Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, collectively gave another KSh 500,000.
