Atwoli

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has fired a strong warning to politicians allegedly planning to rig the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking during a live event aired on NTV, the vocal trade unionist didn’t mince his words, telling off those issuing threats and claiming they will influence the election outcome.

Atwoli, known for his no-nonsense attitude, said that any politician thinking they can mess with the people’s democratic rights through rigging should think twice. He insisted that Kenyans have matured politically and won’t allow anyone to tamper with the integrity of elections. In his usual animated style, he told off the so-called power-hungry leaders with a firm “shindwee!”

He urged leaders to respect the will of the people instead of creating unnecessary fear and tension by making reckless statements. Atwoli also reminded them that power comes from the people and not backdoor deals. His remarks come at a time when political temperatures are rising, with some leaders already claiming that the 2027 polls will be predetermined.

Many Kenyans, especially the youth, have been expressing frustrations over political games that often lead to division and chaos. Atwoli’s message was clear: Elections should be won fairly, not manipulated through threats or illegal schemes. His tone reflected the mood of many citizens who are tired of recycled politics and want leaders who put the country first.

The fiery COTU boss called on the IEBC to tighten its systems and ensure free and fair elections. He also challenged civil society, media, and young voters to stay alert and defend the vote when the time comes.

In a country where past elections have often been marred by allegations of rigging and violence, Atwoli’s call adds to the growing public demand for accountability and transparency ahead of 2027.

As campaigns begin to take shape, one thing is clear — Kenyans are watching, and the usual dirty tricks may not work this time round.
